Borowski: $700,000 awarded for local transportation projects

NEWTOWN SQUARE, Feb. 25 – New funding of $707,383 from the Commonwealth Financing Authority will support transportation projects in Newtown Township and on Villanova University’s campus in Radnor Township, state Rep. Lisa Borowski announced today.

The grants were awarded through the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Multimodal Transportation Fund, which finances projects to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to the residents of Pennsylvania.

The following grants were awarded in the 168th Legislative District:

  • Newtown Township received $85,250 to install new sidewalks along the Bishop Hollow Road corridor.
  • Villanova University received $622,133 to make pedestrian safety improvements at its Radnor Township campus, including new sidewalks to support pedestrians accessing the Villanova train station and Stoneleigh Gardens.

“Preventing sidewalks and crosswalks from falling into disrepair isn’t just common sense—it’s a wise and responsible investment of state dollars,” Borowski said. “Well-designed and maintained walkways protect pedestrians’ lives, reduce accidents and strengthen communities overall. Everyone deserves to feel safe when walking in their neighborhood, and that’s exactly what these investments aim to achieve.

“I’m proud to work alongside Senators Cappelletti and Kearney to advocate for this crucial funding, because we all care deeply about Delco and the safety of its residents and the students who choose to learn here,” said Borowski, D-Delaware.
