Borowski announces $117.5K in state funding for local Fire & EMS companies
Joins revamped Fire & EMS Caucus as co-chair

NEWTOWN SQUARE, Feb. 19 – State Rep. Lisa Borowski, D-Delaware, announced today the Office of the State Fire Commissioner awarded about $117,557 to help equip firefighters and EMS providers with the resources to respond to emergencies in Delaware County.
Borowski also shared she has joined the reconstituted and bipartisan Pennsylvania House Firefighters & Emergency Services Caucus as its co-chair along with state Rep. Greg Scott, D-Montgomery. State Reps. Jim Rigby, R-Cambria; and Alec Ryncavage, R-Luzerne; are serving as co-vice chairs. The caucus, which held its first meeting on Feb. 14, will address the issues facing the commonwealth’s fire and emergency services.
“Skim our local news headlines on any given day – you’ll see how firefighters and EMS workers selflessly choose to put their safety on the line for ours, every time they go to work,” Borowski said. “I’ve been learning about the challenges they face since my career in public service began as a township commissioner, and I’m thrilled my role in this caucus puts me in an even better position to advocate for them in the state legislature.”
The fire and EMS companies serving the 168th Legislative District that received OSFC grants are:
- Edgmont Township Fire Co. No. 1 - $14,228.68 (Fire).
- Newtown Square Fire Co. No. 1 - $16,951.99 (Fire).
- Radnor Fire Co. - $31,951.99 (Fire & EMS).
- Rocky Run Fire Co. - $45,924.60 (Fire & EMS).
- Villanova University Emergency Medical Services - $8,500 (EMS).
“I admire each of the fire and EMS companies that serve our district for so many reasons – among the top is their regular undertaking of further training, education, and efforts to implement new technology,” Borowski said. “All of those efforts cost money, and House members must advocate for these state grants to assist them with every new state budget. Our hardworking first responders deserve every resource they need to respond to local emergencies.”
The grants are from the Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program, administered by the OSFC and authorized by Act 91 of 2020 until June 30, 2024. Borowski supports legislative efforts to reauthorize and double the size of the program to $60 million in the 2024-25 state budget.
