Union Training Programs

 

BOILERMAKERS
LOCAL UNION #154 JATC

Boilermakers possess a full range of knowledge and skills required to work in the construction industry, including boiler making, welding, acetylene burning, asbestos abatement and other activities.

 

BRICKLAYERS & ALLIED CRAFTS
LOCAL UNION #9 JATC

Bricklayers build walls, partitions, arches, fireplaces, chimneys and other structures from bricks, blocks, structural tile and other pre-made materials. In addition to bricklayers, Local 9 represents stone masons, marble workers, pointer cleaner-caulkers, tile workers and terrazzo workers.

 

CARPENTERS
EASTERN ATLANTIC STATES JATC

Carpenters construct, erect, install and repair commercial and residential structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, metal studs and wallboard. They erect framework in buildings including subflooring, partitions and rafters, and install molding, wood paneling, cabinets, windows, doors and hardware as well as build forms for concrete work, build stairs and lay floors. The Council has 6 certified apprenticeship programs: Commercial Carpentry, Heavy Highway Carpentry, Floor Covering, Mill Cabinet, Millwright, and Pile Driving.

 

ELECTRICIANS
IBEW UNION LOCAL #56

Electricians install, maintain and test power, lighting, communications, and other systems in commercial, industrial and institutional buildings. Also covered is residential work and all the power, lighting and systems in houses and apartment complexes.

 

ELEVATOR CONSTRUCTORS
LOCAL UNION #6 JATC

Elevator Constructors install, repair and maintain elevators, escalators, wheelchair lifts, home lifts, dumbwaiters and movable walks.

 

INSULATORS
LOCAL UNION #2 JATC

Insulators install insulation in both industrial and commercial mechanical systems, such as piping, boilers, duct work, storage tanks and equipment for the purpose of energy savings and burn protection, and to control system heat transfer and condensation.

 

IRON WORKERS
LOCAL UNION #3 JATC

Ironworkers erect structural steel, erect bridges, install reinforcing steel, metal floor and roof decking, and assemble and install decorative curtain wall. Ironworkers also continually maintain and service the furnaces, cranes, equipment and steel assemblies for the power and steel industry. They also move heavy machinery and assemble pre-engineered metal buildings.

 

LABORERS
DISTRICT COUNCIL OF WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA JATC

Laborers are involved with most phases of the construction industry. They work with scaffolding, soil compaction, transit and level, trenching and shoring, traffic control, air tool operation and many other assigned tasks.

 

OPERATING ENGINEERS
LOCAL UNION #66 JATC

Operating Engineers operate, maintain and repair heavy construction equipment, such as cranes, backhoes, loaders, scrapers and bulldozers, for use in the construction of buildings, factories, roads, dams, power plants, pipelines and bridges.

 

OPERATIVE PLASTERERS AND CEMENT MASONS
LOCAL UNION #526 JATC

Plasterers finish walls and ceilings using all types of interior and exterior products, such as conventional plaster, veneer plaster, spray fireproofing, spray foam insulation, and others. Cement Masons smooth and finish exposed concrete surfaces on projects such as walls, floors, steps, sidewalks, driveways and roads. The bulk of the work is in commercial and industrial building.

 

PAINTERS, DRYWALL FINISHERS, GLAZIERS
IUPAT DISTRICT COUNCIL #57 JATC

Painters prepare surfaces and apply paints to walls and moldings, indoors and outdoors. Industrial work may include bridges, tanks, power houses, sandblasting and spray painting. Commercial work can involve painting/brush and roll, and wall covering. Drywall Finishers seal joints between plasterboard and other wallboard to prepare wall surfaces and ceilings for painting, paper hanging and custom texturing. Glaziers cut and install all types and sizes of plate, custom window, obscure leaded glass, mirrors and curtain wall. They also fit and install aluminum entrances, sidelight and show windows as well as plastic and porcelain panels in metal and wood frames.

 

PLASTERERS
LOCAL UNION #31 JATC

Plasterers finish walls and ceilings using all types of interior and exterior products, such as conventional plaster, veneer plaster, spray fireproofing, spray foam insulation, and others.

 

PLUMBERS
LOCAL UNION #27 JATC

Plumbers design, install and maintain sanitary, storm, water supply and gas service lines, plumbing fixtures and mechanical equipment.

 

ROOFERS
ROOFERS LOCAL #210

Roofers install roofs on structures in a variety of materials, including shingles, slate and tile, hot tar, rubber, plastics and composites.

 

SHEET METAL WORKERS
LOCAL UNION #12 JATC

Sheet Metal Workers build a variety of products from sheets of steel, aluminum, copper and other metals as well as install the finished products. They are responsible for heating, air conditioning and ventilation of commercial buildings and homes. They also design and fabricate outdoor items, such as fascia, flashing, awning, gutters and metal roofs, as well as indoor kitchen equipment and related exhaust systems.

 

STEAMFITTERS
LOCAL UNION #449 JATC

Steamfitters install and service pipes and measuring devices in water and steam-pressure systems, air conditioning and refrigeration systems, and power and fuel facilities.
