Abney: $920,000 in grants awarded to Pittsburgh projects

HARRISBURG, Nov. 18 — State Rep. Aerion Abney, D-Allegheny, announced that the Commonwealth Financing Authority awarded $920,000 today to invest in projects that will benefit Pittsburgh’s economy.

Grants from the Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund will fund 11 projects in Abney’s district:

  • $100,000 to the Pittsburgh Opera for operating expenses.
  • $200,000 to Humane Animal Rescue for HVAC replacements.
  • $40,000 to Northside Partnership Project for asbestos remediation.
  • $30,000 to Community of Change Center for renovations and a computer lab.
  • $75,000 to Citrone Foundation Inc., for a vehicle.
  • $100,000 to Charles Street Area Corp. for site development.
  • $50,000 to LEVEL: Equity Building for property acquisition.
  • $100,000 to BPOE Elks Lodge #33 for rehabilitation work.
  • $50,000 to City of Pittsburgh for building renovations at Warrington Recreation Center.
  • $75,000 to Pittsburgh Trust for Cultural Resources for bandshell construction.
  • $100,000 to Beltzhoover Consensus Group for home construction.

“These are worthwhile projects that will benefit Pittsburgh in many different ways – from housing opportunities to community services to recreation and the arts,” Abney said. “These are the kinds of investments that will ensure that Pittsburgh remains a great place to live and work.”

Established in 2004 by the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act, the GEDTF appropriates funds from gaming revenue to invest in economic development.
