About the Transportation Committee

Since 2023, the House Transportation Committee has been led by Majority Chairman Ed Neilson from Northeast Philadelphia. This committee works in a bipartisan manner to provide Pennsylvanians with a transportation system that is safe, accessible, and efficient. Whether you live in a rural, suburban, or urban community, everyone relies on Pennsylvania’s transportation system to get to work, school, the grocery store, medical appointments, and wherever else they need to get to.

During the 2023-2024 legislative session, the committee approved 82 transportation bills, making it one of the busiest and most productive in the House. Of these 82 bills, 34 were successfully enacted into law, including, but not limited to bills related to the collapse of Interstate 95 in Northeast Philadelphia so the reconstruction could continue without interruption, investing more into roads and bridges, increasing state funding for transit agencies in all 67 counties, reducing distracted driving, updating multiple road safety programs, making vehicle registration more affordable for retirees and injured veterans, imposing stronger penalties against illegal street racing, and much more.

In the current 2025-2026 legislative session, Pennsylvania is faced with several pressing transportation challenges. A looming fiscal cliff for our transit agencies threatens service cuts and fare increases in all 67 counties which will harm rural, suburban, and urban communities alike. Less money to construct and maintain over 120,000 miles of roadway and 32,000 bridges as gas tax revenue continues to decline. Struggling airports, waterway ports, and railroads which are fighting to stay competitive after years of underfunding. These are difficult challenges which may require difficult solutions, but the House Transportation Committee stands ready to advance bipartisan solutions to keep moving Pennsylvania forward.
