O’Mara: $80K in state grants awarded for two local projects
Pennsylvania Institute of Technology, Smedley Park to benefit from funding

HARRISBURG, Sept. 3 — State Rep. Jennifer O’Mara, D-Delaware, announced today that a total of $80,000 in state grants has been awarded for two important projects benefitting a local healthcare program and outdoor recreation.
The Pennsylvania Institute of Technology, which took over the Neurodiagnostic Technology program from the shuttered Crozer-Chester Medical Center, was awarded $55,000 to replace outdated equipment. The funds will go toward purchasing two new Natus EEG machine systems.
Friends of Smedley Park Corp. was awarded $25,000 to improve the park’s trails, stormwater management and conservation efforts.
“I’m thrilled to see this funding coming home to Delco,” O’Mara said. “PIT stepped up when Crozer closed and took a class of students who were in mid-program, and those graduates can expect to earn $78,000 per year. For its part, Smedley Park and its trails are a beautiful and popular outdoor space that we must maintain. This funding is definitely going to worthwhile projects.”
The grant for Pennsylvania Institute for Technology was awarded from a program at the state Department of Education.
The grant for Friends of Smedley Park was awarded from a program at the state Department of Community and Economic Development.
