Schweyer lauds historic life sciences development project investment for Lehigh County

ALLENTOWN, Jan. 30 – State Rep. Peter Schweyer, D-Lehigh, is highlighting Gov. Josh Shapiro’s announcement today that pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly and Company will be investing in the Lehigh Valley with a multi-billion-dollar pharmaceutical facility.

“This is a monumental investment by one of the largest pharmaceutical companies right here in our region and is destined to bring hundreds of well-paying, family-sustaining jobs into the Lehigh Valley,” said Schweyer. “Lehigh County has a rich and proud history of innovation and manufacturing and this investment ensures it continues for years to come. I want to thank the Governor for his continued efforts to bring major development projects like this all across Pennsylvania.”

According to Schweyer, Eli Lilly and Company will build a $3.5 billion state-of-the art pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Upper Macungie Township. It is the largest investment by a life sciences company in Commonwealth history.

The state has also committed to providing a Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) award of up to $5 million to a local community college and/or technical school to help create a workforce development training program that would serve as a talent pipeline for the company in the Lehigh Valley.
