Sanchez announces DCNR grants for Abington, Upper Dublin townships

HARRISBURG, Sept. 24 – State Rep. Ben Sanchez, D-Montgomery, announced two Recreation and Conservation grants totaling $160,000 for his legislative district today, one for a wildlife sanctuary in Abington Township and another for open space planning in Upper Dublin Township.

The development grants issued through the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources are going to the following projects:

  • $115,000 to Abington Township to further improvement of Ardsley Wildlife Sanctuary, including construction of pedestrian walkways, observation areas and stormwater management measures, installation of fencing, ADA access, plus landscaping and other related site improvements.
  • $45,000 to Upper Dublin Township to prepare an update to the Comprehensive Open Space and Environmental Resource Protection Plan, including a written, bound report.

“As somebody who spent a lot of time in the Ardsley area when I was growing up and enjoying the outdoors, improving the walkability there is vitally important, and I’m so grateful to the DCNR for the funding for this particular project,” said Sanchez, who is in his first term representing the 153rd Legislative District. “And, as somebody with a perfect environmental voting record, I enthusiastically applaud the open space planning in Upper Dublin Township.

“Together, this funding will mean a great deal to these communities that I am proud to represent.”
