Emergency Food Drive, HB446 Passes the House, and a Save the Date for your calendars

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I hope you find this week’s News and Events email helpful as we look at what’s coming up in and around the district.  As always, my team and I are here to help you with any state-related matter and are happy to provide as much information as we can.

Whether you need a service, want to share your concerns, offer ideas or drop off a donation for one of our drives, we’d love to see you at my district office during our walk-in hours of 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday.  Alternatively, feel free to reach out at (215) 517-6800 or via email at RepSanchez@pahouse.net.

Wishing you and yours a good week ahead.

Sincerely,

State Representative Ben Sanchez

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Happy Halloween!

If you will be on the roads tonight, be sure to be mindful of extra children, dinosaurs, the occasional Avenger and maybe a few pop stars that could be out and about with bags of candy in their hands. Drive safely and enjoy the spooky night!

Some simple tips from the American Red Cross to enjoy the night safely include:
  • Choose face paint instead of masks so kids can see clearly.
  • Add reflective tape or wear light-colored clothing to stand out at night.
  • Use glow sticks or battery lights instead of candles inside pumpkins.
  • Stay on sidewalks and cross only at corners or crosswalks.
  • Carry a flashlight to light the way.
  • Parents should join younger trick-or-treaters; plan a route and curfew for older kids.
  • Drivers — slow down and watch for children along the road.
  • Keep pets indoors and away from the doorbell excitement. Make sure they can’t reach candy or chocolate — it can make them sick.

HELP US FILL THE PANTRIES!

Due to the federal shutdown, SNAP benefits will not be dispersed beginning on November 1st as they usually are. Among those greatly affected are our neighbors, friends and families. Even though our PA Governor Josh Shapiro has joined the multi-state lawsuit demanding that SNAP dollars be made available, we know that our food banks and pantries will be inundated with requests come November. Please help me help others in our community.

My office will be holding an emergency donation drive to fill our food banks! Stop by between 10am and 3pm on November 6th with your nonperishable donations and we will get them to our local pantries. Don't forget to think about some hygiene essentials too!

If you aren't able to come that day but are still looking to help, please feel free to drop off your donations at your earliest convenience and we will add them to the collection.

Thank you!

HB446 - Passed the House this week!

This is a commonsense reform that helps patients and our health care providers as a whole. Right now, patients are often charged for an entire bottle or container of medication used during a procedure, but any leftover medicine is thrown away when they leave. Then, if they still need that medication for recovery, they’re forced to buy it all over again. House Bill 446 ensures that patients can take home the medication for which they have already paid.

Trunk-or-Treat Resource Fair fun!

Thank you to everyone who came and participated last Saturday at our third Annual Family Resource Fair Trunk-or-Treat at the Ambler YMCA! It was so much fun to see all of the creative costumes and get to talk to so many families in our communities. I'm already looking forward to seeing what you all come up with for next year! Happy Halloween!

Veteran ID Event with our Recorder of Deeds

Thank you to Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds Jeanne Sorg for partnering with me to bring her Mobile Military Discount ID program to our office for our veterans last week.  This is an annual event that we are proud to offer together to make a valuable county resource accessible to more residents.  It was great seeing those who came by.
