Rozzi announces almost $1M awarded to Mount Penn, St. Lawrence boroughs

TEMPLE, MARCH 26 – State Rep. Mark Rozzi today announced that Mount Penn Borough and St. Lawrence Borough have been awarded a cumulative total of $980,416 in state grants.
Mount Penn received a $653,716 grant for Endlich Avenue improvements. Specifically, the funds will go toward road reconstruction along the roadway.
The grant comes from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Multimodal Transportation Fund. Funds may be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets and transit-oriented development.
“Every pothole filled, every shoulder repaired, is a step closer to a brighter, seamless future for Berks County roadways,” Rozzi said. “Grants like this help strengthen our community's infrastructure, laying the foundation for safer and smoother journeys for years to come.”
St. Lawrence received two grants equaling $326,700 to purchase a new dump truck equipped with a plow and salter, and other public works equipment, including a new mini paver and Caterpillar asphalt compactor. This will ensure the borough can respond to emergencies involving weather events, maintain, repair and pave borough streets, and maintain stormwater facilities.
“St. Lawrence Borough’s truck and work equipment were outdated, and many projects had to be completed using rented equipment. It’s more cost efficient and reliable to have our own modern tools at the ready, especially in case of emergencies,” Rozzi said.
These two grants are funded by the Local Share Account. These grants awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority are from the distribution of gaming revenues from Category 4 licensed facilities to support projects in the public interest within the host counties of York, Cumberland, Westmoreland and Berks.
