On Wednesday, March 11, the House Majority Policy Committee will convene a hearing to discuss strengthening protections for good Samaritans, hosted by Reps. Emily Kinkead (D-Allegheny) and Paul Friel (D-Chester). The hearing follows an incident at Bloomsburg University last year in which a student was charged with recklessly endangering another student who was suffering from alcohol poisoning, despite finding this student, alerting authorities and staying with them until help arrived. Members will hear testimony from the student who was charged and law experts about the need to implement legislation that would bolster the state’s medical amnesty and good Samaritan laws.
The hearing will take place at 12 p.m. in Room G-50 of the Irvis Office Building, part of the Capitol Complex, and will also be livestreamed here.
