On Wednesday, March 4, Chairman Rep. Ryan Bizzarro (D-Erie) and the House Majority Policy Committee will convene a joint hearing with the Senate Democratic Policy Committee and Chairman Sen. Nick Miller (D-Lehigh, Northampton) to address dynamic pricing. Following a Consumer Reports investigation on AI-enabled pricing experiments, Instacart stopped using the technology that allowed grocery retailers to charge shoppers as much as 23% more for identical items at the same time.
Testimony from experts will focus on dynamic pricing and new legislation that would prohibit dynamic pricing on essential goods, like groceries. The hearing, co-hosted by Rep. Mary Isaacson (D-Phila.) and Sen. Nick Pisciottano (D-Allegheny) will take place at 12 p.m. in Room G-50 of the Irvis Office Building, part of the Capitol Complex, and will also be livestreamed here.
