Pielli announces $167,514 in Solar for Schools Grant

WEST CHESTER, May 21 – State Rep. Chris Pielli, D-Chester, announced today that a $167,514 Solar for Schools Grant has been awarded to the West Chester Area School District.

The funds come from the Solar for Schools Grant Program. Created in July 2024, the program reduces costs of implementing solar energy systems into schools across Pennsylvania. School districts, intermediate units, charter schools, technical schools and community colleges are eligible for the program. The funding may cover the purchase and installation of equipment, permit fees, energy storage and utility interconnection.

“Our schools are great places to implement clean energy,” Pielli said. “They sit in open spaces and receive plenty of sunshine. By putting in solar panels at East Bradford Elementary, we harness energy from the sun to help that school become energy-independent, lower our carbon footprint, and save taxpayer dollars. It is a win-win scenario for everyone”

The Commonwealth Financing Authority is an independent agency that administers the Solar for Schools Grant Program as well as other state economic stimulus packages.
