Pashinski applauds Shapiro’s priorities in 2023-24 budget address

HARRISBURG, March 7 – State Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski issued the following comment regarding the 2023-24 state budget plan presented today to the General Assembly by Gov. Josh Shapiro.

“Today, we witnessed history as Pennsylvanian’s first woman speaker of the House, first woman Senate pro tempore, and first black lieutenant governor joined Governor Shapiro as he delivered his first budget address. Governor Shapiro’s proposal would build on things I’ve been fighting for alongside my fellow House Democrats for years – including raising the minimum wage, additional funding for our public schools, expanding property tax relief for senior and disabled Pennsylvanians, investing in our workforce, and more money for making our communities safer. Importantly, it would do all of this without raising taxes on hardworking Pennsylvanians.

“Under this proposal, Wilkes-Barre Area and school districts across the commonwealth would see another increase in basic and special education funding, building on our efforts to address the historic underfunding of the district while helping to take the financial burden off local property taxpayers. The governor’s budget also would address health care, provide property tax relief by raising the maximum rebate under the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program to $1,000, increase mental health funding by $20 million, and much more to help ALL of our Pennsylvania citizens. This is a budget proposal that should benefit Luzerne County and communities across our commonwealth – and I hope that the General Assembly can work together and pass it,” Pashinski said.
