Philadelphia House Delegation issues statement on shooting of police officers

(Updated to reflect the tragic news about Officer Seiber)

"We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of the officers shot in last night's attack. Please join us in keeping Officer Seiber's loved ones in your prayers."

PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 10 – The Philadelphia House Delegation issued a statement on Saturday morning’s shooting of two Philadelphia Police Department officers responding to an emergency call.

“The shooting of these two officers responding to a 911 call about a man brandishing a gun on the porch of a West Philadelphia home is another senseless, horrific case of gun violence shattering the lives of people in our community.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the officers – both of them parents – their loved ones and their brothers and sisters in uniform as they continue the never-ending job of rushing toward danger. We thank the emergency responders and the doctors and nurses of Penn Presbyterian for their heroic efforts in treating these two officers.

“This shooter allegedly waited for the officers to respond to the call and then ambushed them, then continued to fire on the officers who responded to save the fallen. We are grateful he was taken into custody and will now face justice.

“There are far too many incidents like this one – beyond standing with the community, we renew our pledge to advance legislation to stop gun violence and protect every person we serve.”

The Philadelphia House Delegation is chaired by state Rep. Morgan Cephas, D-Phila., and consists of 25 members of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives who represent Pennsylvania’s only county of the first class.
