Cephas announces investments in neighborhood infrastructure

PHFA awards over $3 million for West Philadelphia neighborhoods

HARRISBURG, Oct. 22 State Rep. Morgan Cephas, D-Phila., announced today that the PA Housing and Finance Agency has awarded nearly $3.1 million in low-income housing tax credits to development projects in West Philadelphia neighborhoods of the 192nd Legislative District.

The award for the Media Flats development will receive over $1.4 million to invest in new construction of multifamily units for seniors. The West Philadelphia Preservation project will receive nearly $1.7 million to help with rehabilitation of single-family row-home style rental properties.

“Affordable housing is a major concern in Philadelphia, so I’m excited that PHFA is investing in developing quality neighborhood infrastructure to provide housing opportunity for our most vulnerable neighbors and families,” Cephas said.

“This investment will help build and restore affordable rental housing and multifamily units for West Philadelphia’s working families and seniors that are the heart of our neighborhoods. Having a roof over your head means stability for employment, health care, and peace of mind for family, so this will make such a meaningful difference in the lives of so many people.”

The investment is part of nearly $22 million in tax credits awarded by PHFA across the city of Philadelphia for affordable housing, and $66.5 million across Pennsylvania. The federal low-income housing tax credits are administered by PHFA and were approved by its board on Oct. 9.

The 192nd Legislative District comprises communities in West Philadelphia which are north and west of Market Street, including Overbrook, Overbrook Park, Wynnefield, Carroll Park and more.
