Cephas announces grant for Cobbs Creek Golf Course

Funds awarded to improve roadway safety at historic golf course

HARRISBURG, Feb. 24 – State Rep. Morgan Cephas, D-Phila., announced today that a $750,000 grant has been awarded to Cobbs Creek Community and Restoration Foundation to improve roadway safety on the Cardington Road access tunnel leading into the historic Cobbs Creek Golf Course in West Philadelphia.

The funds were awarded from the state’s Multimodal Transportation Fund, administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority.

“Our longtime efforts to rehabilitate and revitalize the Cobb Creek Golf Course couldn’t happen without the support of our partners in the state like the Commonwealth Financing Authority,” Cephas said.

“This historic course is the crown jewel of golf courses in the greater Philadelphia area and a landmark course in the history of the game. Grants like this go a long way to fostering improvements to maintain it as a ‘must play’ on an international scale and a world-class facility for competition, education and community in our backyard.”

The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to the residents of the commonwealth. Funds may be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets and transit-oriented development.

The 192nd Legislative District comprises communities in West Philadelphia north and west of Market Street, including Overbrook, Overbrook Park, Wynnefield, Carroll Park and more.
