O'Mara: $1 million in grants awarded for two local park projects

HARRISBURG, Oct. 9 — State Rep. Jennifer O’Mara, D-Delaware, announced today that two state grants totaling more than $1 million were awarded to upgrade parks in Upper Providence Township and Morton Borough.
Upper Providence was awarded $895,500 for renovating Cherry Street Park. The work includes improvements to pedestrian walkways and the parking area, construction of a nature play area, stormwater management measures, installation of play equipment, ADA access, lighting, fencing and signage.
Morton was awarded $193,300 for renovating Jacobs Park. The improvements include rehabilitation of the basketball court, construction of pedestrian walkways, installation of play equipment, ADA access, landscaping and signage.
“It’s very important to me that we have well-maintained parks and open spaces in Delco,” O’Mara said. “I’m pleased to report that these state dollars will fund improvements to two of our local parks. This will ensure that Delco families can continue to enjoy these spaces and help Delco remain a great place to live.”
The grants come from the Community Conservation Partnerships Program in the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
