Mullins helps bring in nearly $2.4M in state funds for local projects

PECKVILLE, Sept. 16 – State Rep. Kyle Mullins announced today he helped secure $1,288,466 in new state grant funding awarded to projects in the 112th Legislative District. He also supported efforts to bring an additional $1,095,000 in funding for projects that will benefit all of Lackawanna County.
The grants were awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority via the Statewide Local Share Account program, which distributes Pennsylvania gaming revenues to support regional projects in the public interest.
“Our local municipalities, community organizations, and first responders work hard to stretch every dollar, but major equipment and infrastructure upgrades shouldn’t fall entirely on local taxpayers,” Mullins said. “Bringing this funding home means our firefighters and police officers get the equipment they need, flood-prone neighborhoods stay safe from flooding, and critical projects move off the wish list and into reality. And I’m grateful to my local colleagues in the state House and Senate for sharing that same vision and supporting these projects.”
The following grant amounts were awarded in the 112th Legislative District.
- $116,000 to complete the final phase of the Archbald Borough Veteran’s Monument Park Project, which will add a pavilion patio, parking lot, sidewalks, decorative infrastructure and lighting to the memorial park.
- $230,000 to the Greater Scranton YMCA to renovate its facility in Dunmore Borough, fixing critical infrastructure needs and upgrading its electrical system to be more efficient.
- $275,000 to Fell Township to fix flooding and resulting traffic issues by upgrading its stormwater system. The project will replace aging pipelines with modern equipment and repave the streets that have been impacted by the flooding and project work.
- $200,000 to Jefferson Township to add a softball facility to its recreation complex, expanding choices for youth sports participation. The project will add ADA-accessible paths to connect the facility to the larger complex and align with Little League standard requirements.
- $279,000 to Jessup Hose Co. No. 2, which serves Jessup Borough and surrounding municipalities, to replace its 31-year-old fire engine and associated equipment that have been deemed past their safe service life by the National Fire Protection Association.
- $71,016 to Olyphant Borough Police Department to add an additional police vehicle with modernized equipment to its fleet, allowing officers to better serve their coverage area.
Jermyn Borough will receive funding for two projects:
- $90,000 to finish renovations to the Artisan Fire Company building, making it ADA-accessible and enabling Artisan to hold fundraisers at its own facility.
- $27,000 to replace the deteriorated roof of the Crystal Volunteer Fire Company building.
The following grant amounts were awarded for Lackawanna County-wide projects.
- $350,000 to complete Phase II of Saint Joseph’s Center’s building facade restoration.
- $205,000 to the Lackawanna Blind Association for the construction of an updated facility.
- $220,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of NEPA for the purchase of new passenger vans to transport members.
- $320,000 to Friends of the Poor and Catherine McAuley Center for the purchase of mobile pantry vehicles.
