Celebrating Labor Day

Hello,

This weekend marks Labor Day – and there’s no better place to celebrate than in Pittsburgh, where the labor movement has a long and storied history. We like to say Pittsburgh built America, but, in many ways, it was labor that built Pittsburgh.

There is a lot happening throughout the region this weekend, and a great round up of events and activities can be found at visitpittsburgh.com. There, you’ll find information about several food and music festivals and, of course, the annual Labor Day Parade, which is the largest and oldest Labor Day Parade in the nation.

The local Allegheny/Fayette Central Labor Council does a tremendous job putting this parade together, drawing thousands of union members, workers, leaders, and elected officials to Pittsburgh.

We want to wish you and your family a happy Labor Day, and we hope you enjoy the weekend. We want to thank all of the workers who make this weekend possible, but we particularly want to recognize those who will have to work on Labor Day, especially our first responders and healthcare workers. We appreciate all of you and thank you for the work you are doing.

Our 10th annual Senior Fair is less than a month away, and we’re hoping to see you there! This FREE event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, Sept. 19, at the Salvation Army at 1060 McNeilly Road in Mt. Lebanon. We’re expecting more than 40 exhibitors, all providing targeted information and resources just for seniors, and we will be on hand to answer questions and share an array of information on state government programs and services!

As in past years, our Senior Fair includes:

  • Information for seniors and caregivers from local, state, and federal government offices
  • Resources from local service providers, nonprofits, and businesses
  • Flu shots (no cost; must bring Medicare or insurance card)
  • Blood pressure screenings and health resources

As always, if you have questions about any of this information or any state-related matter, please do not hesitate to contact our office at 412-343-3870 or RepMiller@pahouse.net.

P.S. Please note our offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 1, in observation of the holiday.
