2025 Memorial Day Events

Several months ago, members of the South Hills Memorial Day Parade Association approached us to help them organize and drum up support to continue this iconic parade. We pulled together a team with leadership from the City of Pittsburgh, Dormont, and Mt. Lebanon to ensure that the legacy of the parade lives on. We’re thrilled to welcome Rocky Bleier as our Honorary Grand Marshall -- his courage and resilience has inspired so many through difficult times.

Also, in partnership with the Historical Society of Mt. Lebanon, we produced a list of at least 221 men from our communities who gave their lives in war for the nation. This year’s parade is dedicated to the memory of 1st Lt. Thomas A. Bird, Jr., USMC, who was the first Mt. Lebanon resident to be killed in action in the Vietnam War.

South Hills Memorial Day Parade

Monday, May 26, 2025

In memory of 1st LT. Thomas A. Bird, USMC, the 91st South Hills Memorial Day Parade starts at 10 a.m. on Brookline Boulevard. After, it proceeds to Pioneer Avenue through Dormont and finishes at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery.

Dormont VFW Post 694 will host an Open House after the parade and provide the opportunity to speak with veteran families and community leaders about the importance of celebrating this annual holiday.

Please note that our office will be closed tomorrow, May 20, for the Primary Election and on Monday, May 26th in recognition of the Memorial Day holiday. We’ll reopen on Wednesday, May 21 and Tuesday, May 27 at 8:30 a.m., respectively.
