Our Disability & Mental Health Summit is tomorrow! Pre-registration is closed, but walk-ins are always welcome. Some of our sessions are at capacity, but there are still some opportunities to attend some very relevant and informative sessions.

This year, our Keynote presentation will be a discussion about the Importance of Medicaid. I’ll be joined by Erin Gabriel, a disability and health care advocate, and Dr. Josie Badger, a disability rights activist, to discuss some of the critical programs that Medicaid covers and how any cuts could impact millions of Pennsylvanians, including some 246,800 in Allegheny County.

Yesterday, I was joined by state legislators, leaders, and advocates for a press conference emphasizing the uncertainty coming from Washington D.C. with the proposed cuts to Medicaid funding. Thousands of Pennsylvanians rely on Medicaid for their healthcare needs, especially those living among the most vulnerable populations.

The goal of the Disability and Mental Health Summit is to connect self-advocates to resources that promote independence and expand opportunities. The state has promises to keep when it comes to disability and mental health, and we must ensure that everyone has the support they need to build a future right here in the Commonwealth.

While you’re at our Summit on Thursday, May 8, check out our Resource Fair, which is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Gym on CCAC’s Allegheny Campus. This FREE event offers opportunities for you to connect with services and resources that matter to you.

May 9 will feature a Summit Futures Fair, which focuses on the needs of high schoolers and young adults with disabilities as they move into adulthood, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., as well as a Cities of Inclusion Pittsburgh Summit event hosted by the Special Olympics from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
