Upcoming job fair

We are about three months away from winter, and with that, PennDOT is looking to fill winter positions including CDL operators, mechanics, and clerks. A winter job fair will be held next Saturday, Aug. 30 at its Allentown office, 1712 Lehigh St.

If you are interested in applying, visit the link below to see the current available positions.

You may have unclaimed property

You may get a letter from the Pennsylvania Treasury, informing you that the state owes you money. Why would that be? Well, the PA Treasury is the repository for uncashed paychecks, closed bank accounts, insurance payments and refunds, rebates… and more! If you got a letter, you can sit tight – you won’t have to do a thing.

Once you receive it, you can start counting, because you will next get a check – within about 45 days. One in 10 Pennsylvanians has unclaimed property – if you didn’t get a letter, you can still check to see if there’s something for you! Call my office at (610) 266-1273 for more information.

Digital pardon process

Pennsylvania recently became one of the first states in the country to digitize the pardon process. You can now apply for a pardon at the Board of Pardons website.

Vote-By-Mail – it’s safe, it’s secure, and it’s YOUR choice to be heard

November 4th is Election Day, and you have several options for how to make your voice heard. First, make sure you’re registered – you have until October 20th.

You can vote in person at your local polling place; the polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Click here to find out where to vote. If it’s your first time voting at a new polling place, you will need to show a photo ID to cast your ballot.

If voting in person doesn’t fit your schedule, Pennsylvania also offers safe and secure Vote-By-Mail options. Once you apply, your ballot will be sent to your home. You can fill it out and either drop it in a mailbox – make sure to allow at least a week for delivery – or return it in person to your county election office. Get all the details here: https://www.pavoterservices.pa.gov/Pages/PollingPlaceInfo.aspx

I want to make sure everyone can cast their ballot and be heard in November – and in every election.

List of the best PA state parks

Pennsylvania is home to many beautiful state parks and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources are recognizing these great parks – and there is still time to visit a few of these parks before the cold weather sets in.

See the list for yourself and visit some of them if you can.

My office can help you

My office staff and I can help you with state-related services and programs. Feel free to stop by at your convenience if you need help with any services listed in the graphic above.

Touring the Meals on Wheels building in the Lehigh Valley

I enjoyed a tour recently of the Meals on Wheels building along with Senator Nick Miller. For more than 50 years Meals on Wheels of the Lehigh Valley has been providing excellent meals, hot and cold, to seniors across Lehigh and Northampton counties and areas in Carbon County as well. They meet the needs of more than 2,000 seniors and individuals with disabilities. Meals on Wheels even uses fresh produce in the meals they serve.

Are you in need of a meal? Contact this amazing group by calling 610-691-1030 or by visiting their website:  About Us - Meals On Wheels

With Senator Miller and the wonderful Meals on Wheels staff. (L to R) Monica McCandless, Senator Nick Miller, Dina Kovats-Bernat, Juan Davila, Dawn Stillwagen, and Nick Nonnemacher.

In the Meals on Wheels warehouse with Dina Kovats-Bernat and Senator Miller. Did you know that Meals on Wheels clients may be eligible to receive free fans and heaters? Some approved clients may also receive free pet food and cat litter for their pets.

Voting to fund mass transit

I recently voted to fund mass transit to get Pennsylvanians where they need to go. Above is a great graphic with information about this bill and how it will help those living here in the commonwealth.
