Celebrating the legacy of K. Leroy Irvis with the PA Black Caucus

The House was back in session this week in Harrisburg, and I participated in events for the 5th Annual K. Leroy Irvis Conference and Days of Action with the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus. K. Leroy Irvis, who represented Allegheny County from 1958-1988, was the first African American to serve as Speaker for any state legislature in the U.S. It was an honor to recognize his wife, daughter and granddaughters on the House floor. You can watch my full remarks from the Irvis Days press conference on YouTube.

I also helped present James R. Roebuck Scholarships to outstanding students from across Pennsylvania as part of the events. Congratulations to these hardworking young scholars!
