PITTSBURGH, June 13 – State Rep. La'Tasha D. Mayes, D-Allegheny, announced today the award of two state grants to support critical restoration and cultural revitalization projects in Pittsburgh’s East End communities.
The Latin American Cultural Center, operated by the Latin American Studies Association, has received a $25,000 grant to support the next phase of its renovation efforts. In partnership with Rothschild Doyno Collaborative, LASA is engaging in a comprehensive design process to transform the center into a vibrant community hub. The project emphasizes community engagement and preservation of the building’s historical character.
“These funds will help preserve the legacy and enhance the future of Latin American culture in Pittsburgh,” Mayes said. “This investment ensures that the cultural center remains a space for education and celebration.”
Union Project has been awarded a $100,000 grant to continue essential masonry and roofing repairs on its historic facility. This phase of restoration will focus on the rear of the building and includes repairs and upgrades to ensure the integrity of the historic building.
“The Union Project is a cornerstone of community creativity and connection,” Mayes said. “I am proud to support funding that protects this landmark and ensures it remains a safe, accessible space for all.”
