Madden begins 4th term representing Monroe County

HARRISBURG, Jan. 6 – State Rep. Maureen Madden took the oath of office Tuesday to begin her fourth term in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

The Monroe County legislator, who was first elected to represent the 115th Legislative District in 2016, begins the 2023-24 legislative session as chair of the House Democratic Caucus’ Northeast Delegation.

In the 2021-22 session, she served on the House State Government, Education, Human Services, and Gaming Oversight committees. Committee assignments for the 2023-24 session will be announced soon.

“These last few years have shown what good political leadership – and bad political leadership – can mean for the communities served by elected representatives at all levels of government,” Madden said. “Since 2016, I have worked very hard to serve honestly and ethically and in the best interest of the community that elected me.

“I pledge to continue to serve my constituents to the best of my ability, and I am excited that our Democratic Caucus can now lead from the majority and advocate for putting people over politics, for protecting and promoting safe access to health care, for believing in American democracy and the fundamental right to vote, for fair pay for a hard day’s work, and for successful public schools and safer neighborhoods. The people of Monroe County and all of Pennsylvania deserve the quality leadership they elected in the PA House of Representatives in November, and it’s time for us to get to work.”

Democrats won 102 of 203 seats in November, giving them their first elected majority in the Pennsylvania House in more than a decade. That included a second Democrat in Monroe County with the election of former Stroudsburg mayor Tarah Probst in the 189th Legislative District, which includes part of Madden’s previous district. A fellow Northeast Delegation Democrat, Rep. Mark Rozzi of Berks County, was elected the new Speaker of the House Tuesday.

Madden was elected in a redrawn 115th Legislative District that now includes the townships of Barrett, Coolbaugh, Paradise, Pocono, and Price; parts of Middle Smithfield and Stroud townships; and the borough of Mount Pocono.

Her district includes students and taxpayers from East Stroudsburg, Pocono Mountain and Stroudsburg school districts.

Working out of their Coolbaugh office at 354 Memorial Blvd., Room 4, in Tobyhanna, Madden noted that she and her staff have worked on thousands of constituent issues, including unemployment compensation claims, PennDOT requests, unclaimed property cases, and so much more. Madden plans to open satellite office locations to ensure she and her staff are accessible throughout the district.

“Whether it’s assisting somebody with PennDOT, property tax issues, or directing them to services provided by our commonwealth, or fighting for what’s right at local school board or municipal meetings, or advocating for funding to local infrastructure, safety and other projects, or championing good legislation and opposing bad legislation in Harrisburg, I am grateful and honored to serve the people of the Pennsylvania and the 115th Legislative District,” Madden said.
