Madden announces more than $3 million in state funding for Poconos region

HARRISBURG, June 10 – State Rep. Maureen Madden announced more than $3 million in state grants today she helped secure for the Poconos region.
Approved Friday afternoon by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, the funding includes more than $1.7 million toward projects directly supported by Madden, who represents the 115th Legislative District in Monroe County.
Those projects and the grant money announced are:
- $537,399 via the Monroe County Industrial Development Authority for new Pocono Family YMCA buildings around their current structures in Stroudsburg Borough.
- $490,097 via Mount Pocono Borough for the demolition and construction of a 4,400-square-foot borough maintenance garage with parking area and security funding.
- $295,489 via MCIDA for improvements to the existing Monroe Career and Technical Institute, which will include a 9,000-square-foot addition to the existing MCTI that will feature a large open space for a variety of uses, a new security entry point and conference room.
- $183,233 via MCIDA for a loading dock and outside storage addition for Waste Not Technologies.
- $148,139 via MCIDA for Stroudsburg Wesleyan Church to build an indoor play area to house a Family Fun and Learning Center.
- $117,495 via MCIDA for the Pocono Hemlock Civic Association to repair the roads within the Pocono Hemlock Development.
“These crucial and diverse redevelopment projects will all offer massive benefits to our communities and our residents,” Madden said. “As I always have and always will in my role as legislator, I work tirelessly to bring state funding back to our region because our nonprofits, our municipalities, our schools and our companies deserve it. I am proud to have advocated strongly on behalf of these recipients, and I am grateful to the CFA for awarding this funding today.”
Other local projects and recipients announced today include the following:
- $450,000 via MCIDA on behalf of Ski Haven Lake Estates to remove and replace a bridge in Paradise Township.
- $430,000 via Stroud Township to install 2,450 linear feet of pipe along a township right-of-way and private land to be able to provide public water service to a planned Forte Inc. expansion project.
- $400,000 via MCIDA on behalf of Fabricated Components Inc. to purchase and install a new CNC Turret Punch Pressing Machine for manufacturing operations located in Stroud Township.
- $200,000 via MCIDA for sanitary sewage disposal at The Hawthorne Resort.
The grants are from the Gaming Local Share Account funds allocated for Monroe County and its five contiguous counties of Carbon, Lackawanna, Northampton, Pike and Wayne, for funding for projects concerning the public interest, community improvement, economic development and roadway improvement.
Madden also noted that earlier this week, $550,000 in Realty Transfer Tax funding was awarded to three projects in Monroe County:
- $300,000 via the Redevelopment Authority of Monroe County for the Monroe County Senior Housing Rehabilitation Program, which will assist qualified low-income senior homeowners (60+) with necessary home repairs.
- $150,000 via the Redevelopment Authority for the Monroe County Land Bank, which will support the acquisition, demolition and rehabilitation of four blighted properties in Monroe County, which would then be sold to income-eligible buyers as owner-occupied dwellings.
- $100,000 via Family Promise of Monroe County to provide homelessness prevention and rapid re-housing services to households in Monroe and Pike counties to reduce the number of at-risk households, stabilize independent housing, and increase successful housing placement.
