House clears legislation to further protect abortion access

(Nov 15, 2023)

In Pennsylvania, it remains safe and legal. But other states have worked furiously to enact extreme abortion bans and restrict the ability for women to access essential health care. With this legislation, we are sending a clear message that Pennsylvania will not be bullied by these states and their attempts to control other people’s bodies. Pennsylvania must continue to pass policies that protect access to abortion and other critical reproductive healthcare services that people across our nation need and deserve. Read more

York tour highlights tourism, economic development in region

(Nov 02, 2023)

“It comes as no surprise, knowing Pennsylvania’s agricultural history and plentiful number of farms and orchards, our state ranks among the best in the nation in several categories in food manufacturing,” said Mary Jo Daley, who represents portions of Montgomery County and serves as the majority chair on the House Tourism Committee. “So it was impressive to tour businesses in York, ‘The Snack Food Capitol of the World,’ not only to witness the operations but see how they continue to drive economic development and tourism in the region.“The Tourism Committee also participated in a historical tour earlier in the morning, which highlighted the important and rich history of York.” Read more

We want to advance legislation and solutions by working with our colleagues in both the House and Senate. One of the keys focuses of our work will be proper data collection, as initiated with Act 5 of 2023 signed into law by Governor Josh Shapiro. Farewell Interview with Teresa Tuturice

(Oct 04, 2023)

A member of my office staff who you likely know, Teresa Tuturice, is retiring on Oct. 31. She has been with our House Democratic Caucus for 18 years, and her services and presence in our daily lives will be sorely missed! Teresa was especially gifted in serving our district’s senior citizens, thanks to her enthusiasm and amazing can-do work ethic. She completed hundreds, if not thousands, of Property Tax/Rent Rebate forms for our senior and disabled constituents, regularly brought in home-cooked and baked goodies, and was a delight to all. T eresa Tuturice: I have worked for the House since January 2005, so for over 18 years. I worked for Rep. Mike Gerber and when he decided not to run again, for Rep. Daley. Once Rep. Gerber was elected he sought me out. My brother was a fellow attorney in Montgomery County and I worked in his law office. Rep. Gerber heard we were closing that office and asked me if I would like to interview for a job in his new District Office. I met with Rep. Gerber and his chief of staff for breakfast at Boccella’s restaurant in Conshohocken, where I was born and raised. When the Rep realized I knew every person in the restaurant (staff AND customers) he decided he should definitely hire me. I learned that later. Working for Rep. Gerber was a real pleasure. He always expressed gratitude for the work that the DO staff did. He was very genuine. The first time I met Rep. Daley was right after she Read more

Daley provides statement following train derailment in Whitemarsh Township

(Jul 17, 2023)

MONTGOMERY, July 17 – State Rep. Mary Jo Daley, D-Montgomery, provided this statement following this morning’s train derailment in Whitemarsh Township . “We are relieved that we are seeing reports that no one was hurt in this accident,” Daley said. “Emergency response teams from the township, state and county were on the scene early this morning to inspect the site and ensure that no hazardous materials had spilled. Now, work remains to plan the removal of these freight cars from the scene safely.” According to media reports, Whitemarsh Emergency Services is investigating the derailment of about 16 of the train’s 40 cars of a CSX train on Norfolk Southern rails in the Plymouth Meeting section of Whitemarsh Township. The derailment is located in the area bounded by Flourtown Road, Joshua Road and Stenton Avenue. Precautionary evacuations occurred for residents and businesses closest to the scene; however, residents were allowed to return by 10 a.m. It is not believed that further evacuations will be needed, but evaluations continue. There are no reported injuries and no known hazards to the public. Gov. Josh Shapiro and his team are monitoring the situation and urging local residents to take precautions at the direction and instruction of local authorities. One of the container cars is leaking white silicone balls/pellets that are non-hazardous. Read more

Daley celebrates passed budget, education increases for Colonial and Lower Merion school districts

(Jul 07, 2023)

HARRISBURG, July 7 – State Rep. Mary Jo Daley, D-Montgomery, applauds the $714 million increase for education funding in the bipartisan budget that passed the Pa. House, and once signed by the Pa. Senate, heads to the governor with no tax increases. “The passage of this budget is a step forward, but let us be clear, this is only the beginning,” Daley said. “While we celebrate these increases to education funding, we have an obligation to address the challenges that plague our great state. This includes fulfilling our obligation to deliver a high-quality public education to all students, no matter their ZIP code. All schools, their students, faculty, and staff deserve support to give our children the best chance to succeed. “Beyond education, there is much more work to be done. We’ve fought hard in the Pennsylvania House to pass a minimum wage increase, commonsense gun safety measures, and the Fairness Act to protect LGBTQ+ individuals from discrimination. It’s time to use our budget surplus to invest in crumbling infrastructure, improve access to affordable healthcare, and propel renewable energy forward to protect our environment and open green spaces. Let’s build a Pennsylvania that leaves no one behind and creates opportunities for all.” More information on this budget is available by contacting Daley’s district office at 610-832-1679. ### Read more

Daley celebrates House passage of bike lane protections

(Jun 20, 2023)

HARRISBURG, June 20 – State Rep. Mary Jo Daley, D-Montgomery, celebrates the passage of her parking-protected bike lanes bill that would allow street parking to be reconfigured with vehicles parked further from the curb to leave space for a protected bike lane. “The way our laws are currently written, a vehicle has to park within 12 inches of the curb,” Daley said. “What we are looking to do is allow cars and motor vehicles to park further away from these curbs, creating a sort of parked car barrier that can allow bikes to travel safer along these busy streets. I’m looking to provide pedestrians and cyclists more ways to get around their neighborhoods while also minimizing the impact on car traffic patterns.” This measure is supported by the Pedalcycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee and the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia. This bill does not require changes to be made, and simply gives a legal option for local authorities to consider. For more information, contact Daley’s district office at (610) 832-1679. ### Read more
