DECLUTTER WITH MY FREE SPRING SHRED EVENT
Mark your calendars for my upcoming free shredding event on April 26! Join us at the Burkett Park complex in Robinson Township from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. This is a fantastic opportunity to keep your personal information secure while clearing out some clutter.
Plus, Allegheny County Sheriff Kevin Kraus will have representatives on-site for Project DUMP, allowing you to safely dispose of any unwanted medicines and prescriptions.
If you can’t make it this time, don’t worry! I’ll be hosting more shredding events in the fall.
ADDRESSING THE ISSUE OF ABANDONED BOATS
The House Game and Fisheries Committee recently reported out my bill that addresses derelict and abandoned boats. This is a real problem across the Commonwealth.
One component of this issue is how to dispose of these boats, which are primarily composed of fiberglass - a material very hard to recycle.
A group of MBA students from Duquesne University have taken on the task of finding a solution.
I joined our local Water Conservation Officers as we met with some of these good people - David Fortna, Professor Michael Corcoran, Devan Mercurio, Maureen McGaffin, and Maxi Hradecny - to discuss the issues and possible solutions.
The students have taken on this task as part of their Capstone Project, where students work with a real client to develop a set of strategic recommendations to make progress on an issue.
LIHEAP DEADLINE EXTENDED TO APRIL 18
The deadline to apply for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program has been extended to April 18, 2025.
The program can provide income-eligible households with a cash grant between $200 and $1,000 based on household size, income, and fuel type. The grant is sent directly to the utility company or fuel provider and does not need to be repaid.
If you are experiencing an emergency related to your household’s heat, you may be eligible to receive additional funds through a crisis grant.
