DCMH Sale to Upper Darby School District Finalized; Get Your Medical Records for Free

I get a lot of questions about what is happening with the buildings in the Crozer Health System. On August 13, Prospect Medical Holdings, the California-based hedge fund that owns the Crozer Health System and forced it into bankruptcy, finalized the sale of the Delaware County Memorial Hospital property to the Upper Darby School District. In the short-term, the district will stabilize the site to address safety concerns and use it as a temporary space during the renovations of one of their elementary schools. Long-term plans for the site include demolition of the hospital and then construction that will extend the high school campus. The DCMH site will no longer provide health care services.

At last week’s hearing, the judge overseeing the bankruptcy case in Texas also approved the settlement between Prospect and Morgan Records Management that guarantees free access to your personal medical records for everyone, even if you are not a Medicaid recipient. We have gotten complaints from neighbors who were charged for their records, even though Prospect was supposed to provide them at no cost. For some people, those fees ran into hundreds of dollars -- adding yet another barrier to quality care. This settlement was made possible because The Foundation for Delaware County will pay $3M to cover the cost of medical records for thousands of former Crozer Health patients. For Medicaid recipients, an automated process will verify your Medicaid eligibility. Please note, the court-approved settlement will not cover reimbursement for any fees you previously paid to obtain your records. At last week’s hearing, Prospect told the judge that they were close to an agreement of sale of Taylor Hospital, but they did not disclose who the potential buyer is. There were no updates on Crozer Chester and Springfield Hospital, though I know that Prospect has received bids for both properties.

Prospect’s next hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, September 23, at 2:30 pm. If you want to follow the bankruptcy case more closely, Prospect Medical Holdings has created a website with information that includes court documents and hearing dates, including a link to watch the upcoming hearings: https://cases.omniagentsolutions.com/?clientId=3725 and https://us-courts.webex.com/meet/jerniga

Former Crozer Health Patients Can Access Medical Records for Free

If you are trying to obtain your medical records from the former Crozer Health System, the Foundation for Delaware County has made that possible at no cost to you.

The Foundation recently reached an agreement with Prospect Medical Holdings to resolve outstanding real estate and legal matters. As part of the resolution, the Foundation will cover the cost for former Crozer Health patients to obtain their medical records free of charge. The agreement was presented and approved during a bankruptcy hearing on Wednesday, August 20, in Dallas.

You can begin the process by accessing the patient portal through Morgan Records here.
