Says inaction on previous transit funding bills is the cause
Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta April 11, 2025 | 9:27 AM
State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta today released this statement after the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transit Authority announced a series of unprecedented service cuts and fare increases.
“These service cuts and fare increases will drastically impact all Southeastern Pennsylvania and the sad part is – it was totally avoidable,” Kenyatta said. “Last legislative session, I voted with House Democrats three times to pass legislation that would fund public transit, and each time Senate Republicans failed to bring it up for a vote.
“By refusing to fund public transit, on three separate occasions, they have robbed hardworking Pennsylvanians of their livelihood. Nine out of every 10 riders on public transit are headed to work or school.
“We must address this now, enough with the political games. It’s time for action and results.”
