HARRISBURG, Feb. 4 – State Rep. Mary Isaacson, D-Phila., today joined representatives of Carpenters’ Company, America250PA and others to announce a yearlong commemoration of the Pennsylvania Provincial Conference.
Isaacson joined state Sen. Nikil Saval, D-Phila., in celebrating a $20,000 grant from America250PA to support a yearlong commemoration of the Pennsylvania Provincial Conference, with additional funding provided by the Landenberger Family Foundation. Isaacson’s office also supplied Carpenters’ Hall with copies of the Pennsylvania Constitution to distribute to visitors during the commemoration and as part of broader America250 celebrations.
“I am honored to represent a legislative district in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives with such deep and meaningful historical roots in the founding of our nation and our great commonwealth,” Isaacson said. “I encourage all Pennsylvanians to learn about the significance of the Pennsylvania Provincial Conference during America’s 250th anniversary, to visit Carpenters’ Hall, and to become more familiar with the vital document that formed -- and continues to govern -- Pennsylvania: our Constitution.”
The Pennsylvania Provincial Conference, held June 18–25, 1776, at Carpenters’ Hall in Isaacson’s legislative district, established Pennsylvania’s independence as a commonwealth and laid the groundwork for the state’s first constitution. Delegates to the conference also authorized the mobilization of Pennsylvania’s militia to fight in the American Revolution, which had begun more than a year earlier, in April 1775.
Those joining Isaacson at the Capitol event included:
- Michael Norris, Carpenters’ Hall
- Kelly Leighton, America250PA
- State Sen. Nikil Saval
- Anne Ryan, Pennsylvania Office of Tourism
- Andrea Lowery, Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission
