On this Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial start of summer, let us remember the meaning of this holiday.
As we saw with this week’s elections, let us be reminded of those who fought and died for our democracy while serving the U.S. forces in any current or previous wars. On Memorial Day, we honor those who gave their lives in service to the United States, but it also serves as a reminder of the democratic ideals – freedom, equality, and the right to free elections- for which they sacrificed.
I hope you enjoy your weekend.

Chinatown Liberty Bell Dedication Ceremony
|
I was able to attend a dedication ceremony in Chinatown, as it was selected as a home for one of the specially designed replica Liberty Bells from America 250 PA’s “Bells Across PA” program. This bell, a collaboration between local residents and Philadelphia250, tells the Chinatown community’s unique story through public art as part of the city’s beautification and celebration efforts.

President's House Site Named Endangered Historic Place
|
The President’s House Site has been included in the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s 2026 list of America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places. The annual list shines a light on the threats facing historical sites, uplifting and catalyzing community-led preservation work through a public awareness campaign.
Located in Independence National Historical Park, the President’s House archaeological site was the location of the nation’s executive mansion from 1790 to 1800, and was eventually reclaimed in the 2000s after archeological excavations.
Today, the fight continues to return interpretive materials to the house site, so that visitors can discover the lives of nine enslaved people that lived on the site, viewing the nation’s first executive mansion within the context of slavery in the early republic. More information can be found on the National Trust website.
