Lehigh County lawmakers announce nearly $2.4 million in funding for Allentown community improvements

ALLENTOWN, Sept. 15 – State Reps. Mike Schlossberg, Ana Tiburcio, and Peter Schweyer, as well as state Sen. Nick Miller, all D-Lehigh, today announced a total of nearly $2.4 million in Local Share Account grant funding for Lehigh County.
The awards are as follows:
- $29,400 for capital improvements at Planned Parenthood Keystone’s Allentown Health Center.
- $50,000 for the Da Vinci Discovery Center to purchase an SUV, mobile planetarium, and virtual reality equipment to expand educational outreach programs.
- $150,000 for the Allentown Police Department to purchase police safety equipment.
- $200,000 to conduct a roadway feasibility study in downtown Allentown.
- $350,000 for South Whitehall Township to purchase a modern, NFPA-compliant fire engine for the Cetronia Volunteer Fire Department.
- $375,000 to purchase a bomb robot to be utilized by the Allentown City Fire Department.
- $384,048 to renovate the landmark Civic Theatre of Allentown.
- $855,000 to design a new facility for the Allentown Art Museum.
“These investments in emergency response equipment to keep our neighborhoods safe, traffic improvements so motorists and pedestrians can get home safely, and historic arts and cultural venues will benefit the communities we serve,” said Schlossberg. “It is a pleasure to work with Senator Miller, Representative Schweyer, and Representative Tiburcio to make these resources available for the people we serve.”

In my district, I’m especially proud to see an investment in the Allentown Art Museum, which has been part of our community for 90 years and continues to create opportunities for people of all ages to experience and learn through art. This is what investing in quality of life looks like.”

The Local Share Account funding, which is derived from tax dollars generated at Pennsylvania’s casinos, was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, a state agency that coordinates various statewide economic development programs.
