Shusterman announces $2.47 million in grants for community improvements

Funds to benefit public safety, infrastructure, tourism

PAOLI, Sep. 15 – State Rep. Melissa Shusterman, D-Chester, said she is proud to announce that $2.47 million has been awarded to multiple projects across her legislative district.

All the projects have been funded through the statewide Local Share Account Program, which was established as an amendment to the PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act. The program allows for the distribution of gaming revenues through the Commonwealth Financing Authority to support projects in the public interest throughout Pennsylvania.

The grants have been awarded in the following areas:

  • Infrastructure
  • $900,000 total to the Valley Forge Sewer Authority wastewater treatment plant in Schuylkill Township. Both projects will benefit sewer customers in Schuylkill, Tredyffrin, Easttown, and most of Willistown townships, as their sewage is transported to VFSA for treatment:
  • for major electrical and power supply system upgrades.
  • for vital computer system hardware and software upgrades.
  • $300,000 to the Penns Preserve Treatment Plant in Willistown Township for new equipment and improvements.
  • $275,000 to Tredyffrin Township to rehabilitate the West Valley Road and Glenhardie Road bridges.
  • $250,000 to the Devereux Foundation for an infrastructure and safety project at the Devereux Adult Services building.
  • $125,000 to Willistown Township to design a stormwater management system in the North Cedar Hollow Road area.
  • $50,000 to the Valley Forge Sewer Authority for a new service truck to benefit VFSA municipal customers in Schuylkill, Charlestown, and East Pikeland townships.
  • $25,000 to the Tredyffrin Heritage Center for accessibility improvements to the historic Duportail House and Federal Barn.
  • Public Safety
  • $345,000 to the Paoli Fire Co. toward the purchase of a pumper-tanker fire apparatus.
  • Tourism
  • $200,000 to Chester County to purchase, install, and maintain interactive kiosks at heritage sites and Main Street areas across the county.

Whether it’s urgent infrastructure needs, upgraded equipment for our first responders, or new innovations for county tourism, our economy works for the people who work hard to contribute to it.”
