Burgos applauds PECO for withdrawing proposed rate hikes

HARRISBURG, April 16 – In the wake of PECO’s decision to retract proposed rate hikes, state Rep. Danilo Burgos thanked Gov. Josh Shapiro, fellow legislators, and Pennsylvanians for speaking up and out.

Shapiro announced today that PECO will withdraw its recently proposed rate increase that would have added over $34 per month for customers beginning in 2027.

“This withdrawal is a major win for Pennsylvanians, preventing an unreasonable price increase for over 1.7 million customers,” said Burgos, who is chairman of the House Consumer Protection, Technology, and Utilities Committee. “Thank you to everyone who voiced their concerns, signed petitions, and rallied against these hikes.”

After PECO initially announced its intention to pursue the increase, Burgos joined fellow members of the Philadelphia House Delegation to create a petition opposing the rate hikes, which received a resounding response from the public.

Following discussions with the governor, PECO agreed to withdraw the filing and will continue investing in necessary system improvements while doing more to deliver near-term affordability for customers.

“This withdrawal is the right step. I’m grateful PECO recognized the situation thousands of families across Pennsylvania are facing,” said Burgos. “When we stand together, real change can be accomplished.”
