Burgos encouraged by Meta’s power purchase agreement with Pa. nuclear power

HARRISBURG, Jan. 14 – State Rep. Danilo Burgos issued a statement regarding Meta’s power purchase agreement with a Pennsylvania nuclear power plant and two Ohio plants to supply energy for their data centers:

“Pennsylvania continues to lead the way in reliable nuclear energy. This agreement is a strategic investment in our grid and our people. It’s expanding capacity to meet the growing demand while anchoring family-sustaining jobs in Beaver County and driving prosperity across the Commonwealth.

“By securing long-term support for our nuclear infrastructure, we are addressing this dual challenge of protecting our current ratepayers while preparing for the massive energy demands of AI and data revolution.

“Meta has been clear: it pays the full cost of the power its data centers use. That means Pennsylvania consumers aren’t footing the bill for corporate energy demand. At the same time, these investments add clean, carbon-free nuclear energy to the grid.

“I applaud Meta’s collaboration with our electric utility companies and power providers to responsibly and properly plan for their forecasted energy needs. With accountable planning, we can grow our economy, protect our families from higher energy costs, and secure a strong energy future for Pennsylvania.”

Burgos represents the 197th Legislative District in Philadelphia County and is chair of the House Consumer Protection, Technology & Utilities Committee, which works to strengthen consumer protections and address issues related to utility services.
