Giral welcomes bilingual credit union to Port Richmond

PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 8 – State Rep. Jose Giral, D-Phila., on Friday welcomed a new bilingual credit union to his legislative district during the business’ official ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Giral said Finanta Credit Union, also known as Cooperativa Finanta, aims to serve workers and small business owners who often rely on check-cashing services, money orders, or high-risk lenders instead of traditional banks. The credit union offers mortgages, personal and small-business loans, debit cards, and interest-bearing deposits — along with staff who can help clients learn how to use these services.

“Finanta’s focus on supporting people who have not had access to traditional banks, their commitment to bilingual service, and their goal of opening branches in large or growing Latino communities make them a great fit for our district,” Giral said. “They offer our neighbors the opportunity to build businesses and put down true roots in Philadelphia.”

Finanta opened its first branch in Lancaster in 2023. The expansion to Port Richmond was championed by Giral and state Sen. Tina Tartaglione, who helped to secure $4 million in state funding to support the new location and a planned branch in Reading. PA. The credit union also receives support from private foundations.

“I’m proud to support financial services that work for people who are underbanked or traditionally underserved,” Giral said. “Finanta’s services go beyond safeguarding someone’s money. They guide and support individuals as they work toward true financial independence. This kind of programming will be an asset now and in the future.”

Finanta plans additional branches in Reading, Northeast Philadelphia, and Allentown in the coming years. The new Port Richmond office is located at 2313 E. Venango St., Philadelphia.
