Smith-Wade-El to co-host free car seat check Nov. 8

LANCASTER, Oct. 29 – State Rep. Ismail Smith-Wade-El, D-Lancaster, will co-host with Penn Medicine General Health and Safe Kids Lancaster in anticipation of holiday travels a free car seat check and Touch a Truck event with Lancaster Fire Department firefighters from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8 at Lancaster Township Fire, 1275 Millersville Pike.

“I know parents’ first priority is their kids’ safety, so I am thrilled to join some amazing community partners—Penn Med and Safe Kids Lancaster—to provide a free event where residents can make sure that their car seats are properly installed and adjusted just before they travel to see loved ones this holiday season,” Smith-Wade-El said. “Plus, the Touch the Truck event hosted by Lancaster Township Fire will make it an especially enjoyable experience for our youngest residents.”

The event will provide and review the following child safety seat check components:

  • Fit and installation assistance and education.
  • Height and weight seat limit.
  • LATCH or seatbelt installation.
  • Seat type recommendation.
  • Harness fit and position.
  • Child positioning.

Attendees should keep their car seat and vehicle manuals available during the appointment for easy reference. Additionally, all personal items from cars’ back seats should be removed.
