House unanimously passes Rabb bill to crack down on deed fraud

Legislation to grade deed fraud as second-degree felony advances to Senate

HARRISBURG, June 24 – State Rep. Chris Rabb announced his bipartisan bill with Rep. Tim Bonner, R-Mercer/Butler, that would grade theft involving property titles or deeds as a second-degree felony passed the Pennsylvania House of Representatives unanimously today.

“Deed fraud is a real and growing crisis that is robbing people of their homes,” said Rabb, D-Phila. “This bill would be a significant step toward stopping scammers who are forging documents to steal property. Victims of real estate fraud in Pennsylvania are currently without a path to justice—this legislation is designed to provide that.”

Rabb applauded the bipartisan efforts of Bonner and all who collaborated to craft the bill.

House Bill 1406 now heads to the state Senate for consideration.
