House Democrats demand Republicans 'stop the games'

HARRISBURG, Oct 25 – House Democrats stood together in the Capitol today to call out the Republican majority for wasting time on political games instead of acting to address the issues that truly impact people across the commonwealth.

A statement from Democratic leaders is below:

“For decades now, Republicans have controlled both the state House and the state Senate, and all they’ve done with that majority is ignore what the people really want and need in the name of playing partisan political games.

“Recently children had to be evacuated from a day care center due to carbon monoxide poisoning. There is a bill awaiting action to require CO detectors in every single day care center. Why isn’t it law? Because the bill is sponsored by a Democrat and the Republicans would rather risk the lives of babies and toddlers than bring one of our bills up for a vote. It’s appalling.

“When the people need good union jobs with good pay and benefits, the GOP instead attacks organized labor. When the people demand safer streets, the GOP instead puts more guns on the streets. When the people want their faith restored in democracy, the GOP instead tries to make it harder to vote and support election deniers. When the people want their health care decisions to be made between a patient and doctor, the GOP instead demands a seat in the exam room.

“Now, the legislative session is ending and there is a massive list of issues we need to address, but the Republicans are still playing games. We are making one last appeal for putting people first, and promising a better tomorrow.”

The 2021-22 session of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives will end on Nov. 30. All legislation not passed by then is discarded and must be reintroduced in the 2023-24 session.
