State Budget Finally Passes

At long last, the state has a budget—one that increases school funding, both for basic and special education, without raising your school property taxes; supports essential programs like Medicaid; provides for bridge and road repairs; and backs local businesses that invest in our communities.

I will be the first to admit that we did not achieve everything we wanted in this budget negotiation, and many may be disappointed with certain aspects. However, it is overall a very strong budget—one that funds desperately needed services that were previously operating without state support, pays our bills, helps every child in every Chester County school, and prevents layoffs—all without raising taxes, which is particularly important as costs continue to rise across the board.

Finally, with this budget passed, we can refocus on improving our Commonwealth through necessary reforms and extend greater protections to Pennsylvanians on issues such as advancing medical research, addressing the social worker shortage, and safeguarding individuals during bankruptcy.
