Hohenstein celebrates passage of Dog Law updates, rescue and responsible breeding operations

HARRISBURG, June 29 – State Rep. Joe Hohenstein, D-Phila., is celebrating the passage of S.B. 746, a bill sponsored by state Sen. Elder Vogel, R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence, that would modernize Pennsylvania’s Dog Law to improve customer service, public safety, animal welfare, and create a lifeline of funds for the Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement.

“As a board member of ACCT Philly, I have a unique perspective into how we have chipped away at being known as the ‘puppy mill state’,” said Hohenstein. “It’s in large part to the original Dog Law and the Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement that the state’s reputation has improved significantly. We as a state are much more adept at addressing animal cruelty while also recognizing responsible breeders. To continue this great work, we need to update the license fees and penalties to keep up with rising costs and inflation.”
