World War II POW Finally Returns Home

Last Thursday, I had the great honor of joining PA State Senator Tracy Pennycuick to receive WW II POW Warrant Officer Junior Grade William McMichael’s remains that were returned home for burial.

Warrant Officer McMichael was stationed at the Philippine Air Depot when he was captured by invading Japanese forces sometime in 1942. After being interned at a prison camp and set for transfer back to Japan, he was reported KIA by Japanese records on January 9th, 1945, and buried in a mass grave in Takao, modern day Taiwan. This mass grave was exhumed and the remains forensically identified in 2023, at which time the process to bring him home to rest was started.

This was such a meaningful and joyous moment for his family who were finally able to bring peace and closure by returning him home for eternal rest.

Thank you to Senator Pennycuick for including me and State Rep. Donna Scheuren in this momentous return home for a solider who gave the ultimate sacrifice for his country. We are eternally grateful. Thank you for your service.

Pennsylvania Launches Free Statewide Legal Support Program for Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

Pennsylvania grandparents who find themselves unexpectedly raising their young grandchildren will now have access to free legal advice and support while navigating child custody issues and the court system.

The state has launched the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Legal Line for residents 60 and older who are the primary caregivers for one or more children. The support service is an expansion of an existing program in Philadelphia.

The legal line is staffed with attorneys from the SeniorLAW Center who will provide legal information, advice, and referrals to other social services, including food and financial assistance. The PA Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Legal Line can be reached

at 1-877-727-7529.

Now with the legal line, older residents can actually get the help they need in representing themselves in court, preparing documents, and successfully winning their custody cases.

The legal line is part of the state’s Aging Our Way PA, a 10-year strategic plan on improving aging services across the commonwealth.

Keith Valley Middle School Ribbon-Cutting

On Friday, October 3rd, I was invited to attend the Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony at the brand-new Keith Valley Middle School in Horsham, PA. This state-of-the art facility will support students in the Hatboro-Horsham School District for generations to come.

Thank you to the Hatboro-Horsham School District and School Board for making these plans a reality, to Schradergroup Architects who designed the building, and to D’Huy Engineering who provided the construction management services.

Family Fall Fair Success!

On Saturday, we held our first ever Family Fall Fair behind the Upper Moreland Middle School! It was a beautiful day to be out and about in the community. We had several kiddos and their families stop by to take advantage of what our vendors had to offer, as well as games, facepainting, police dog demonstrations, and food!

Thank you to all the vendors, community members, and families who stopped by and made this such a fun and successful event!

Sam Evans Receives Eagle Scout Honors

I am always thrilled to get an invitation to attend the Court of Honor for an Eagle Scout. Sam Evans hails from Troop 97 based out of Bryn Athyn, PA and recently received the highest honor Scouts can bestow.

Sam held several different leadership positions within his troop, earned 26 merit badges, and won several Scouting awards. For his Eagle Scout project, he brought new life to the Bryn Athyn Police Department by brightening the space with a cheerful coat of paint, removing worn furniture, and assembling and installing fresh furnishings and fixtures.

This accomplishment signifies his dedication, commitment, and hard work to his troop and his community. Sam is a wonderful young man, with a bright future. I can’t wait to see what great things he achieves. Congratulations, Sam!
