The recent attack on Governor Shapiro's residence is appalling and an atrocious act against not only the Governor but the entire Commonwealth. This type of behavior simply cannot be tolerated. I am grateful to the PA State Police, the Capitol Law Enforcement, and all of the first responders whose swift action helped keep the families within the house safe from harm. No single person in this country should have to live in fear. Hate has no home in this Commonwealth. My thoughts and prayers go out to Governor Shapiro and his entire family. We must do better.

Legislation Passed in Harrisburg

In Harrisburg last week, two important pieces of legislation passed the House and will be moving on for consideration in the Senate.

The first bill is House Bill 308, which will protect ALL workers, both private and public. Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) protections were established under President Richard Nixon and since then many lives have been saved, injuries prevented, and corporate profits are higher than they’ve

been in our history.

But in the decades since OSHA was created, public workers — like public school

teachers, bus drivers, police, firefighters, and nurses — don’t have and never had those

same protections.

This bill makes sure we don’t leave our public servants behind by creating safe standards across Pennsylvania and keeping workplaces hazard-free.

There are 600,000 workers across Pennsylvania dedicating their lives to public service. It is time we protect those lives and keep working Pennsylvanians

safe on the job.

The second bill is House Bill 411 – which will provide a cost-of-living adjustment for PA’s retirees – taking care of those who took care of us – and care for us today!

The Public Worker Cost of Living Adjustment Act would increase long overdue retirement payments to former teachers and state workers depending on how long they have been retired.

It helps retirees, helps those currently working know they’ll be taken care of, and helps our communities recruit the next generation of public workers.

I was proud to get it done.

PennDOT Increasing Registration Fees

PennDOT is instituting an increase in registration fees for retired persons from $11 to $12 and for passenger vehicle registrations from $45 to $48, as well as for other registrations, effective April 16, 2025.

The new fees will appear on renewal notices sent to customers for registrations that have a current expiration date of July 2025 or later.  PennDOT will begin accepting the new fees on April 16, 2025.

For a complete listing of motor vehicle fees, please refer to Form MV-70S, “Bureau of Motor Vehicles Schedule of Fees.” The most current version of this form can be found on their website, www.pa.gov/dmv.

New Law Enforcement Caucus

Last week in Harrisburg, the new bipartisan Law Enforcement Caucus was launched under the creator and chair, Rep. Brian Munroe. The goal of the Law Enforcement Caucus is to bring both sides together to support our police while promoting effective, community-driven public safety solutions.

I am happy to be part of a caucus that strives to bridge the gap between lawmakers and the brave men and women on the streets whose job is to make Pennsylvania's communities a safer place to live.

Abington Township Requesting Community Input

The Township of Abington is an entitlement grantee under the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program. In compliance with HUD regulations, Abington must prepare a Consolidated Plan every five years to assess its affordable housing, community development, economic development, and strategic planning needs. The needs and priorities identified in the Consolidated Plan are addressed annually through the Annual Action Plans which present what specific activities the Township will accomplish with CDBG funds.

As part of the planning process, it is essential for them to consult with residents of Abington to gather needs and priorities for the preparation of their Five Year Consolidated Plan. They would like to hear your suggestions and recommendations to include in the plan. To participate, please use the following link:
