Bill to Allow Pennsylvania State Legislators to Officiate Marriages

Many legislators have been asked by constituents to officiate their marriage ceremonies. However, Pennsylvania does not include state legislators among public officials who may perform civil marriage ceremonies. Along with Rep. Ben Sanchez and Rep. Melissa Cerrato – we are circulating legislation that would allow members of the General Assembly to officiate marriages in PA. The proposal will apply to current members if they register with the Chief Clerk.

By allowing members of the General Assembly to officiate marriages, we will allow couples in PA to have one more option for how they would like to conduct their marriages.

“Still Open. Still Awesome.” Tourism Campaign Reinforces PA’s Commitment to Accessible, Affordable Outdoor Experiences

As several federal campgrounds close due to staffing shortages, Pennsylvania’s state parks and forests remain open and ready for visitors – and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) is launching a new tourism campaign to encourage Pennsylvania residents and visitors to choose state parks and forests for their next outdoor adventure.

Pennsylvania’s 124 state parks and 2.2 million acres of state forests offer free, year-round recreation with no entrance fees. With more than 7,100 campsites—including tent sites, modern cabins, and yurts—there’s an option for every level of camper. Many state parks also welcome pets, and locations like Promised Land State Park provide overnight accommodations for horseback riders.

You can reserve campsites and lodging online at visitPAparks.com or by calling

888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757).

For outdoor events happening in PA, visit the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources website at dcnr.pa.gov.

“Skip The Trip” to the DMV By Using Convenient, Online Driver and Vehicle Services

As a way to provide greater access and convenience to customers, PennDOT would like to remind Pennsylvanians that many driver and vehicle services are available online, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. PennDOT’s Driver and Vehicle Services online options are another way for residents to complete certain common transactions from anywhere.

Some common transactions customers can complete online include change of address for non-commercial license and ID card holders, renewal and duplicates of non-commercial driver licenses and ID cards, registration renewals, paying a driver license restoration fee, and obtaining driver history records and restoration requirement letters. There are no additional fees for using online services. To access these services and learn more, visit PennDOT’s website.

As always, my staff is happy to help you complete these transactions online in our office with a signed waiver.

Mission Kids Groundbreaking & Montgomery Child Advocacy Project ‘Wear Blue on the Steps' for Child Abuse Prevention Event

Along with several other representatives and the Montgomery County Commissioners, I attended the groundbreaking for the new Mission Kids Child Advocacy Center and Regional Training Facility in Plymouth Meeting on Friday. In recognition of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, Mission Kids is taking a bold step forward to restore and protect the wonder of childhood for kids in our community and beyond. The new facility will be a place where hope shines for kids and professionals gain the skills and knowledge to protect those who need it most.

We must always protect the well-being of our children and give them all the opportunity for a bright future – here in Montgomery County and beyond.

After the groundbreaking ceremony, we joined the Montgomery Child Advocacy Project (MCAP) to join their annual Wear Blue On the Steps day to recognize April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. MCAP provides free legal services to abused, neglected, and trafficked children throughout Montgomery County. Together, we can all work together to end and prevent child abuse and neglect in Montgomery County through legal services, advocacy, and education.
