Goughnour: $2 million in new state funding awarded for six local projects

Tax credits will address blight, food insecurity and youth safe spaces

HARRISBURG, Oct. 20 – State Rep. Dan Goughnour, D-Allegheny, announced today that six projects and programs in the 35th Legislative District will benefit from more than $2 million in new state assistance.

“This funding will help redevelop blighted properties, address food insecurity and provide a safe space for our youth,” Goughnour said. “These are really important needs, and with the help of these great organizations, we’re stepping up to address them with tax credits that work. I’m looking forward to seeing what this funding will accomplish in the Mon Valley.”

The projects supported with the funding include:

  • Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank: $1.6 million to incentivize farm and retail food donations.
  • Tube City Renaissance: $67,500 to address blight and designate Renziehausen Park as an arboretum.
  • Rainbow Kitchen Services in Homestead: $32,500 to address growing food insecurity.
  • The Dragon’s Den in Homestead: $108,875 to improve sidewalk safety and activate a blighted property for a youth space.
  • The Mon Valley Initiative: $190,000 to invest in housing and commercial real estate projects.
  • Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh in Clairton: $90,000 to address housing distress and environmental risks.

Funding for the projects came through the Neighborhood Assistance Program, a tax-credit program administered by the PA Department of Community and Economic Development that encourages businesses to invest in projects that improve distressed areas.
