Legislative Update - PennDOT warns of Real ID scam; Bucks County Parks creates Parks Volunteer Alliance

PennDOT warns of Real ID scam

PennDOT wants to alert the public about a new texting scam involving REAL ID. Fraudulent text messages are being sent to customers claiming to be from the DMV or the federal Department of Homeland Security asking people to click on a link and provide personal and payment information.

PennDOT does not have a process by which customers can pre-scan and upload REAL ID documents from a home or mobile device. PennDOT will never ask for nor accept any identity documents over the internet, via text message nor email for any reason. Any communications through text, internet or email requesting these documents are not affiliated with PennDOT and could be used for fraudulent purposes. As such, customers should not submit any images of personal documents to such requests.

To learn more about this scam or report it, visit the Federal Trade Commission’s website or report it to the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.

More information on obtaining a Real ID can be found on PennDOT’s REAL ID website.

Bucks County Parks creates Parks Volunteer Alliance

Bucks County has launched the new Parks Volunteer Alliance, a county-wide program inviting community members to help care for and improve its parks. Whether you're passionate about nature, local history, or just looking to give back, the program offers a variety of ways to get involved.

Spanning more than 9,000 acres, Bucks County’s park system is one of the largest in Pennsylvania and includes well-loved spaces like Silver Lake Nature Center in Bristol. Volunteers of all ages, abilities, and experience levels are welcome, and there’s something for everyone—from planting trees and picking up litter to helping with animal care, greeting visitors at nature centers, or leading historic tours.

The program is kicking off with events throughout July, giving interested volunteers a chance to learn more and lend a hand.

Help with the filing for college aid

A free online seminar scheduled for  6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6 will help Pennsylvania students and their families complete the PA State Grant Form. Hosted by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency, the session is designed to simplify the process and answer common questions.

The PA State Grant provides need-based financial aid to eligible students. To be considered, applicants must first submit the 2025-26 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available at pheaa.org/FAFSA or StudentAid.gov. First-time applicants are required to submit the SGF, while many renewal students will not need to. PHEAA will contact individuals if additional forms are necessary.

During the webinar, PHEAA’s Higher Education Access Partners will offer a step-by-step overview of the grant process and provide live guidance for completing the SGF. Students and families are encouraged to register in advance to attend, by clicking here.

State police hiring Liquor Enforcement Officer Trainees

Those interested in a career in law enforcement have an opportunity to apply for the position of Liquor Enforcement Officer Trainee with the Pennsylvania Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement. Applications will be accepted through Aug. 29.

This cycle allows candidates to select their preferred BLCE Region, helping connect applicants with geographic areas where they’d most like to serve.

Liquor Enforcement Officers are responsible for enforcing Pennsylvania’s liquor laws by conducting inspections and investigations at licensed establishments. Their work—carried out in both uniform and plainclothes—supports regulatory compliance and helps maintain public safety across the Commonwealth.

The role offers a starting wage of $22 per hour, or roughly $55,000 annually (not including shift differential), along with a comprehensive benefits package. This includes medical, dental, vision, and retirement plans, paid time off, holidays, flexible scheduling options, and a streamlined basic training program designed to support a healthy work-life balance.

To be eligible, applicants must be U.S. citizens, have a valid driver’s license, and hold at least a high school diploma or equivalent. A college degree is preferred. All candidates must pass a background investigation and meet physical and training standards.

For more information and to apply, visit www.employment.pa.gov. Details about the Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement can be found at www.LCE.pa.gov.
