SEPTA Update:
Service cuts are in motion, but we're not giving up
|
You may have heard over the past week that instead of working with the House on the transportation funding bill we approved and sent them in June, or the updated version we proposed earlier this month, the Senate’s GOP leaders instead offered up their own version of a “funding” bill. But their unserious proposal is a weak stop-gap measure that doesn’t attempt to properly fund SEPTA or any other mass transit agency around PA.
Instead, the bill – clearly a political pawn, not a good-faith effort toward working with us to guarantee your transportation needs – centers on demanding accountability measures these agencies already take (and are reflected in our bill, too).
Their bill would only make SEPTA’s current situation more dire, forcing the agency to decide between repairing and replacing the oldest rail fleet in the country or providing services to 800,000 riders across the Southeast and Philadelphia – and between making more service stops safer for people with disabilities or providing service at all.
|
I’m doing everything I can with my House colleagues to make sure PA’s mass transit systems keep getting kids to school, getting people to work, and taking seniors to their doctor appointments… but we’re up against Senate leaders intent on running out the clock.
|
The more these leaders hear from us, the harder we are to ignore.
You can reach out to Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman at (717) 787-8724 or via web form; and Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward at (717) 787-6063 or via web form.

- Assisting in rescue - Boats 16 feet and over must have a USCG-approved immediately available throwable device on board.
- Kids 12 and under - Children 12 years and younger on PA waters underway in all canoes, kayaks and paddleboards and boats 20 feet or less must wear a life jacket.
- Boat-towed watersports and PWCs - All water skiers and anyone towed behind boats, personal watercraft operators and passengers, and sailboarders (windsurfers) are required to wear a life jacket. Inflatable life jackets are not acceptable for these activities.
