Legislative Update, Reminder: Senior Fair is Wednesday; Budget update

Reminder: Senior Fair is Wednesday

Just a quick reminder that my annual Senior Expo is slated for 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, at Bucks County Technical High School, 610 Wistar Road in Fairless Hills.

This free event is designed for older adults and offers a chance to connect with local, county, and state agencies, get useful health care information, learn about scam prevention, and discover community resources. Whether you’re looking for support services or simply want to stop by and say hello, I hope to see you there. Light refreshments will be provided.

And don’t forget—we’ll also be collecting donations for the 11th annual Capitol Diaper Drive during the Senior Expo. New, unopened infant diapers and adult incontinence products can be brought with you to the event or dropped off at my district office at 3611 Green Lane in Levittown. These items will go to local nonprofits to help families and seniors who need them most.

Budget update

Wednesday marked 100 days without a full state budget, a frustrating milestone for communities across Pennsylvania. In response, the House passed another responsible spending plan without any broad-based tax increases and sent it to the Senate. But until Senate Republicans are willing to negotiate in good faith, the lack of a full budget will continue to cause real and growing harm in our communities.

Here’s how the ongoing budget delay is affecting Bucks County residents:

  • The Bucks County Center for Independent Living has laid off its entire staff, including the executive director.
  • The Bucks County Opportunity Council and the Bucks County Intermediate Unit have both issued letters outlining the serious local impacts of the funding delay.
  • Several Catholic schools have been unable to purchase textbooks for their students.

This isn’t just about politics—it’s about people. It’s about essential services, public schools, and community organizations that can’t wait any longer for the funding they rely on.

As you may know, Pennsylvania has a divided government. The Senate has so far refused to vote on a budget that increases funding for schools, hospitals, infrastructure, and other critical services. The only proposal they've advanced would keep funding flat—despite the rising costs of everything from fuel to food to education.

Local school districts like Bristol Borough and Bristol Township passed their budgets back in June based on the expectation of increased state support. Without it, they face significant deficits—deficits that could force higher property taxes on local residents.

We need a full, responsible budget now—one that invests in education, supports health care, improves infrastructure, and protects vital community programs.

Please contact your state Senator, as well as Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman and Appropriations Chair Scott Martin, and urge them to act. Their contact information can be found here.

Green Lane detoured this weekend

PECO will be conducting utility improvement work on Green Lane in Bristol Borough and Bristol Township beginning Friday. This work, coordinated with PennDOT, will require temporary overnight road closures but will not affect access to my district office at 3611 Green Lane.

Please be aware of the following closure schedule:

  • Friday through Sunday from 10 p.m.-5 a.m. each night, Green Lane will be closed between U.S. 13 (Bristol Pike) and Wilson Avenue.
  • During the closure, detours will be posted using U.S. 13 (Bristol Pike), Beaver Street, Pond Street, Farragut Avenue, and Green Lane.

Local access will be maintained throughout the construction period. Please plan for potential delays and allow extra travel time if you're in the area. As always, construction schedules are weather dependent.

U.S. 1 update

PennDOT recently completed a significant phase of the U.S. 1 project just outside our district, finishing ahead of schedule. This section, stretching from south of Rockhill Drive to north of the Penndel interchange, added a third lane in each direction and made improvements to several bridges and interchanges. These changes are helping to improve traffic flow and safety in the area, which affects many people who travel through or near our district.

Over the summer, new sidewalks and turn lanes were added near Neshaminy Mall and the Horizon Corporate Center to improve pedestrian access and ease congestion. Traffic signals were adjusted, ramps were realigned, and noise walls were installed in select locations. While most of the work is done, some final details like stormwater management and bridge overlays will be finished in the coming weeks.

This project builds on earlier improvements completed in 2022 and connects with future work planned further north, which is scheduled to begin in 2029. Though these updates are outside our district boundaries, the changes along this key corridor impact many local residents and commuters. For more information, please visit: https://mailchi.mp/bergcomm.com/us-1-bucks-construction-update-fall-2025.

Looking ahead, PennDOT will hold a live virtual meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 22 to discuss the next phase of work—the U.S. 1 Section RC3 project. This 2.7-mile segment runs through Middletown Township, Langhorne Manor, and Langhorne boroughs and will include bridge replacements, pavement upgrades, and safety improvements. Section RC3 is the final of four construction contracts in PennDOT’s U.S. 1 Improvement Program. The meeting will include a brief presentation followed by a Q&A session.
